About Punpun

Punpun is located on the banks of the Punpun River, from which it derives its name. It is famous for its religious and cultural heritage, especially the grand celebrations of Chhath Puja.

Mata Seeta (Mother Seeta) spent time near Punpun village. Pind Daan Gaya and Punpun are the most important and auspicious places in Hindu Dharma. Every year, Hindus from Nepal and India go there to observe Śrāddha, or Pind Daan. The first Pind Daan was done in Punpun.

In recent years, Punpun has seen rapid growth with new schools, colleges, transport facilities, and housing projects. Many students from Punpun study in Patna city due to its proximity.

In Punpun, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on September 5, 2025 inaugurated the suspension bridge in Punpun block of Patna district, built on the model of the famous Lakshman Jhula in Rishikesh.

The bridge has been constructed at a cost of approximately 83 crore rupees over Punpun River. Located near the Punpun Pinddaan site, the new bridge will greatly facilitate devotees visiting Punpun for tarpan rituals during the Pitru Paksha Mela.

On the occasion, the Chief Minister also inaugurated and laid the foundation stone for 17 development projects worth around 1,160 crore rupees, covering roads, electricity, and other basic infrastructure in Patna district. Earlier this year, during the Pragati Yatra in Patna district, Mr. Kumar had approved several projects based on local public demands.

NH-22 is a vital highway connecting Bihar and Jharkhand, and its section through Punpun, Patna, is crucial for improving regional connectivity and economic development by providing faster travel to important sites like Bodh Gaya and enhancing tourism and trade. The newly inaugurated, elevated corridor through Punpun significantly reduces commute times, stimulates investment, and boosts the logistics network for the area.
